Peaceful Place In Ooty

    Kanada/paduka language by the word doddabetta in kanada/paduka language, dodda means big and bedda means mountain. Hence it is called Doddabetta which means big mountain. It is the highest peak in the Nilgiris district. Its height is 2636m. It is followed by snow town Hill at 2530m; club Hill at 28m. The valley between these peaks is the tropics. Doddabetta peak is located 10km east-south-east of Ooty. It is the highest peak in the western hemisphere. Doddabetta is a hill in the nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu.

    It is also the highest peak in south India. The peak is located at an elevation of 8,640 feet above sea level. From the top of Doddabetta Hill, one can see various places including Udhagamandalam, coonoor, and Mysore and Mudumalai forest. Telescope has been set up in the Doddabetta hills to see these. Other peaks visible from the top of the Doddabetta mountain range are kulkudi and Hecuba.

    All these two peaks are located close to Ooty. This peak is another popular tourist destination of Ooty. During the April and may tourist, seasons, about 4000 tourists visit here daily. Here, forest officials have set up a research center at the top of the hill. With two telescopes there, tourist can see the scenic valley.

    Doddabetta is said to be the highest peak in Tamil Nadu and the second largest mountain in south India. It is under the control of the Department of tourism, government of Tamil Nadu. Some shops have sprung up along the walkway. Everything from green vegetables to hot Bajjie is available there. Here we can see many types of flowers. Touching Betta gives the view as a whole green mosaic around us.

    You can see the towns below if you look from Doddabetta hill. To that extent it is very high in harmony with nature. Open to the public only form 8 am. To 5 pm. “There is some entrance fee for persons, cameras and video cameras”. The best time to visit this place is from April to June and from September to October. No matter how cold it is a large number of tourist flocks here to enjoy the nature.
